Plenty of excitement as Homecoming 2024 approaches

A bonfire and fireworks will highlight Friday evening activities during Homecoming Family Weekend. Alfred State has plenty of events scheduled for the annual celebration taking place Oct. 17-20.

Excitement is building as Homecoming Family Weekend approaches at Alfred State. Events begin on Thursday, Oct. 17, and run until Sunday, Oct. 20. 

“We have revamped our schedule, and we are looking forward to having alumni, friends, families, and community members on campus,” commented Homecoming Family Weekend Committee co-chair Mary Perkins. “We have something for everyone. The schedule features fun for all ages, food, fireworks, music, and much more.”

Homecoming activities will begin on Thursday with the annual Blue & Gold Dinner* (4:30 – 8 p.m.) in the Terrace. Evening activities include a sand volleyball tournament, a casino night, and a bonfire with s’mores. 

Foodie Friday* (6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.) and the annual Pep Rally will get things stared on Friday night. Foodie Friday will feature food, games, and a bonfire while the ASC cheerleading team will host a pep rally. The band Sweet Degenerates will play on the Pioneer Stadium parking lot stage starting at 9 p.m. and Fireworks will be set off at 10 p.m. 

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, the wrestling team will host their annual open practice at Pioneer Stadium while the Homecoming 5K to benefit the Courage for Carly Fund will start in the 10 Elm Parking Lot. 

The Annual Car Show (register), sponsored by Perks Auto, starts at 10 a.m. along with the Homecoming Basket raffle. 

ACES will start serving the Tailgate Brunch*, featuring a breakfast station, a sandwich station, a hot food station, sweets, and beverages. at 10 a.m. Brunch will be served until Noon. 

The college’s new disc golf course will be available to play from 10:30 a.m. until Noon and again from 1:30 – 3 p.m. Register for a tee time

The football team kicks off vs. Dean College at Noon. Admission to the game is free courtesy of AIMS Self Storage. At the game, fans over 21 can enjoy the End Zone Party. 

Once again, Homecoming visitors can sign up for a VIP Experience which includes special parking, dedicated seating, a drink at the End Zone Party, and a ticket to the Tailgate Brunch. 

The volleyball team hosts La Roche University at 1 p.m. inside the Orvis Activities Center. 

An activities carnival will be held in the Pioneer Stadium parking lot starting at 1:30 p.m. and the Rock Band will take the Homecoming stage right after the completion of the football game (approximately 2:30 p.m.). There will the chance to roller skate during the carnival on the multi-purpose courts. 

ACES will serve a Homecoming Dinner* from 4:30 – 8 p.m. in the Terrace. 

Students and student groups will take the stage at 7 p.m. looking to claim the Alfred’s Got Talent crown. The annual crowd-pleasing event will take place in the Cappadonia Auditorium. 

Weekend activities close out on Sunday with a family brunch* at the Central Dining Hall from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. 

Homecoming Family Weekend co-chair Calsey Bump added, “Our committee has worked hard on the schedule, and we are counting down the days. We hope that our students, their families, alumni, and community members join us for what will be an exciting weekend.”
