“My favorite part of the experience was working with the guys and experiencing a different side of sports. I was thrown into the fire and had to act quickly in many different situations for the first time. I learned about what goes on behind the scenes and had opportunities to collaborate with the local high school choir, Dansville Special Olympics, and many local businesses.”
Jenna George
Alfred State sport management student Jenna George (Dansville, NY) spent the summer serving as the general manager of the Dansville Gliders. The Gliders are one of eleven collegiate baseball teams that play in the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL).
George oversaw and organized game day operations which included team activities, food, and apparel. She also purchased field and game equipment, input statistics, and was in charge of setting-up and taking down everything at the field for home games.
This experience allowed George to apply skills learned in the sport management classroom. Items that included how to create a program, social media creation and management, how to deal with fans and sponsors, and was able to network with other administrators from other teams.
