Alfred State College (ASC) assistant professor of global and diversity studies Angela Graves has been named the 2022 Student Advocate Award winner. Graves was presented her award during the college’s annual honors convocation.

Students can nominate any college employee for their choice for the award through an electronic survey organized by the Faculty Senate Student Life Committee. The committee reviews the nominations and determines the winner. Annually at honors convocation, this award is given based on the nominations of all students.

Graves had numerous glowing recommendations from students including:

  • “She has been one of if not the biggest part of my support system on this campus. Probably the most supportive teacher I have had since I was a freshman in high school.”
  • "She goes out of her way to make her students happy and comfortable. She does whatever she needs to make her students feel less stressed and understands what students are going through.”
  • “She goes above and beyond for the success of all of her students. Her attention to detail while communicating problems show that she is an extremely competent professor.”
  • “Dr. Angela Graves is simply the best. She took a class that I thought I was going to hate and turned it into my favorite class.”
  • “She not only cares about the education of her students but also their success now and for the future.”
  • “She has made it her promise to her students for them to be successful, confident people, and that has made all the difference.”

Graves received an engraved golden apple to commemorate the honor.
