Following a competitive search, Alfred State College (ASC) has announced the appointment and promotion of Jeff Wilcox to the position of Chief of University Police.
Wilcox has most recently served as a Lieutenant and has been with Alfred State UPD since 2005. He steps into the role after Interim Chief of Police Scott Richardson’s nearly two-year stint guiding the department during the pandemic and search periods. Richardson will continue to serve at the helm of the Alfred State Police Academy.
Wilcox is excited for the new role. “I am excited to have this opportunity to be your Chief of Police and to continue to help make Alfred State College a great place to live, learn and work.”
Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Gregory Sammons thanked Richardson and looks forward to working closely with Wilcox. “We had a very competitive search with a strong group of finalists who all boasted considerable experience serving within the New York State University Police agency system. As SUNY professionals and important to us, all the finalists understood and embrace the university policing model for maintaining healthy community relationships. Jeff has embodied this approach and has prioritized an educator’s mindset.”
Before transferring to Alfred, Wilcox served the New York State University Police at Binghamton University. In addition to time with SUNY, Wilcox spent 12 years as the Chief of Police (part-time) with the Nunda Police department.
Wilcox has served as an instructor at the Alfred State Police Academy since the program’s inception. He has also served as the accreditation program manager for UPD’s two most recent re-accreditation efforts in 2017 and 2022. On top of his professional duties, he is the advisor to the Lambda Tau Phi Fraternity. For his service to the college, he was a past recipient of the ASC Pioneer Award.
Wilcox is a graduate of FBI-Leeda Supervisor Leadership Institute. In 2020, he was appointed as a member of the Governors’ Traffic Safety Committee for Child Passenger Safety Advisory Board and is routinely involved in area car seat checks.
The Alfred State University Police Department is a sworn and accredited agency through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
The transition for Wilcox officially begins on May 26.
