The Alfred State Open organized by the Class of 1978 was deemed a success as seven teams took the course at Springville Country Club (Springville, NY) to participate in the inaugural event. The team captained by Barrett Price ’78 took home the title.

Alums traveled from California, Colorado, Nevada, and Ohio to participate in the event organized by fellow 1978 classmate Greg Haeseler. The event featured a buffet lunch, the round of golf, and a happy hour.

Alfred State Director of Development Jason Sciotti was very pleased with the event, “This event showed a wonderful commitment to Alfred State from the Class of 1978. They are the first class to come together to establish an endowed scholarship for our students. I can’t say enough about the originator, Mr. Greg Haeseler ’78 from Long Beach, CA. He has rounded the troops from 1978 and truly showed what Pioneer Pride is all about”.

One of the many highlights of the event was the honoring of former first lady Ms. Mary Huntington. Her husband, David, was the president of Alfred State in 1978. She is still very active on campus and is a huge Pioneer football fan. A plaque to honor the Huntington family was established and a spot on the plaque was raffled off. Jack Wolfe ’19 is the first to have his name on the plaque.

Price and his teammates on Team Bear Metal Works (Buffalo, NY) will have their names carved into “the jug”. Price teamed with Bryan Price, Charlie Bird, and Casey Kacz shot a 66.
