Alfred State College is proud of the new brand name that aims to bolster the identity of Allegany County.

According to an article by The Spectator, designers of the name, “Western NY Wilds,” hope the new brand will “give an identity to local residents who are proud of where they live, give second home owners an ‘escape’ destination, give hunters and sportsmen a community, give artists a place to do their work undisturbed, and give college students a destination brand they can claim as, ‘I went to school in …’”

Alfred State Vice President for Economic Development Dr. Craig Clark, who also serves as the economic development chief for the county, was quoted in the article as saying, “This new brand is an investment in our future economic health as a county. It builds a sense of place here and provides Allegany County with a marketable identity. Having a consistent brand identity will help us be more effective at targeting the markets we are seeking to build up – like visitors, young professionals, remote workers, and new business growth.”
