Wrestlers Ready for Nationals

Five Alfred State College wrestlers will represent the college at the 2010 NJCAA National Championships in Des Moines, IA.  Northeast District Champions Eric Shedden (Canton, PA) and TJ Nelson (Somers) will be joined by Cody Dill (Unatego), Dan Steiger (Miller Place), and Shawn Hanrahan (Unatego) will compete at Veterans Memorial Auditorium beginning on Friday morning.

Five Alfred State College wrestlers will represent the college at the 2010 NJCAA National Championships in Des Moines, IA.  Northeast District Champions Eric Shedden (Canton, PA) and TJ Nelson (Somers) will be joined by Cody Dill (Unatego), Dan Steiger (Miller Place), and Shawn Hanrahan (Unatego) will compete at Veterans Memorial Auditorium beginning on Friday morning.

Shedden will enter the competition at 141 lbs. with a 15-5 overall record.  He has received a bye in the first round and will take on the winner of the Anthony Owens (Yakima CC) - Luis Camacho (Colby CC) in the round of 16.  Shedden defeated Tyler Wong 7-4 to claim the Northeast District crown.

Nelson also will receive a bye in the first round of the 197 lb. weight class.  Nelson will take on the winner of the David Khavin (Nassau CC) - Will Worthy (North Iowa Area CC).  Nelson enters the competition with a 7-6 record after defeating Jeff Hawryliw 6-2 in the District Championship.

Dill, a 3rd place finisher at 125 lbs. at Districts, enters nationals with a 13-7 overall mark.  He will take on Collin Hase (Labette CC) in his first round match-up.

Steiger has a bye in the first round of the 197 lb. weight class and will take on the winner of the Chad Wright (Labette CC) - Bruce Babcock (Itasca CC) match in the round of 16.  Steiger is 6-9 on the year.

Hanrahan will make his return to the mat as a wild card selection in the 157 lb. weight class.  Hanrahan was 5-6 on the season before suffering an injury that has kept him off the match since mid-January.  He will take on Chase Nelson (Labette CC) in the first round.

Wrestling begins on Friday at 9:30 a.m. and continues all day Friday and Saturday.  The All-American matches will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. (All times are Central Standard Time)
