The Alfred State College women's soccer team suffered just their second loss of the season, 2-1 to #4 Herkimer CCC, on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Pioneers, ranked #6 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, are now 9-2-2 on the season (8-2-1 in Region III Division III) games.
The Lady Pioneers trailed 1-0 at halftime but were able to tie it up when Jessie Smith (Fredonia) found the back of the net on a penalty kick. Herkimer CCC would take the lead back in the final seven minutes of the contest and were able to hold off all ASC attacks the rest of the way for the victory.
ASC outshot HCCC 13 to 10. Mo Parks (Avoca) made four saves for the Lady Pioneers.
Herkimer improves to 13-2 on the season.
Alfred State will hit the road again on Tuesday for another match-up with a top ten team. ASC travels to #10 Finger Lakes CC for a 4 p.m. start in Canandaigua.
