The Alfred State College volleyball team wrapped up their 2008 season with their 38th victory of the season in the 4th/6th place match of the NJCAA Division III National Championships.  The Lady Pioneers earned a straight set 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 over Nassau CC.

The Alfred State College volleyball team wrapped up their 2008 season with their 38th victory of the season in the 4th/6th place match of the NJCAA Division III National Championships in Rochester, MN.  The Lady Pioneers earned a straight set 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 over Nassau CC.

In their final match wearing the Blue & Gold, Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) and Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) led the team.  Jerome finished with 15 kills and 10 digs while  Toyodome finished with 14 kills, 10 digs, and three aces.  Jerome finishes her two-year career (2007-08) with a 74-10 record while Toyodome (2006 & 2008) played for team with a 70-7 mark.

Emily Linn (Portville) played a solid game finishing with 10 kills and seven digs, Miki Inoue (Kumamoto, Japan) had a team high 12 digs and chipped in eight kills, and Breanna Horton (Owego Free) passed out 40 assists and was credited with eight digs.  Chrissy Nolan (Niagara Wheatfield) chipped in six digs, six assists, and two aces.

Head Coach Gene Doorley is proud of his team and the season they just completed.  "The girls had a magical season.  To return to the National Championships and finish higher in the national standings is a true testament of how much hard work has been put in to this program by these girls.  I am proud of the girls and look forward to working towards another trip to Rochester, MN and the National Championships."

ASC finishes the season with a 38-4 overall mark and earned the 4th place finish in Division III of the NJCAA.  The 38 wins is the most in school history while the 4th place finish is the best in voleyball program history.

The trip to the NJCAA Division III National Championships was the programs second in a row (finished T-5th) and fourth time a Lady Pioneer volleyball team went to the National Championships (1976 and 1977).
