Trio of Pioneers receive Chancellor's Award

Three Alfred State College athletes have been awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award for excellence academically and athletically.  Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA), Zak Williamson (Rocky Point), and Keenan Hall (Monticello) were honored by SUNY and Chancellor Dr. John B. Clark.

Three Alfred State College athletes have been awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award for excellence academically and athletically.  Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA), Zak Williamson (Rocky Point), and Keenan Hall (Monticello) were honored by SUNY and Chancellor Dr. John B. Clark.

Longenecker goes for a pinLongenecker is the recipient of the Chancellor's award for the second straight year for wrestling.  He has a 3.75 GPA in the classroom and was a 5th team All-American on the wrestling mat.  In 2007-08 he was 20-4 on the season, won the Region III championship at 133 lbs., and was named most outstanding wrestler of the district tournament.  He finishes his career with a 46-12 record.

Zak Williamson RunsWilliamson receives the award for the second straight year for cross country.  He holds a 3.27 GPA while participating not only in cross country but indoor and outdoor track & field.  During his time at Alfred, Williamson was a two-time All-American in cross country and a three-time All-American in outdoor track.  He was also named All-Region three times during his career.

Hall throws at NationalsHall was the recipient of the chancellor's award for indoor track & field.  During his career at Alfred State, Hall was a member of back-to-back Region III indoor track & field champion teams and a 2007 outdoor regional champion.  He was a first team All-Region honoree this spring after winning the discus.  Hall holds a 3.83 GPA and previously shared the A-State's academic award for the highest GPA for a student-athlete. 

The award recognizes a combination of outstanding academic excellence and superior athletic achievement.  In order to be considered for this award, student-athletes had to be nominate by their athletic director.  Nominees then had their and academic and athletic accomplishments reviewed by athletic directors from across the State University System.  Recipients of this award have an average of 3.56.

Awards are given to NJCAA, NCAA Division I, and NCAA Division III athletes within the State University System.  Longenecker and Williamson are the first two Alfred State athletes to be honored twice with the award.
