Track teams win Regional Titles

The Alfred State College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams captured Region III Championships on Saturday at SUNY Delhi.  The men were 17 points better than 2nd place SUNY Delhi with 237 points while the women racked up 195 points to better Herkimer CCC's 136 points.

The Alfred State College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams captured Region III Championships on Saturday at SUNY Delhi.  The men were 17 points better than 2nd place SUNY Delhi with 237 points while the women racked up 195 points to better Herkimer CCC's 136 points.

The Regional Championship is the second for both teams as both teams won the indoor regional championship as well in February.

Dan Harris (Rochester/Edison) won the 100 (10.7) and the 200 (22.1) and was part of the winning 4 x 100 relay team (42.3).  In the relay he teamed with Robert Riley (Rochester/Edison), John Chisolm (Burlington, NJ), and Alvin Fleming (Eastridge).

Chisolm, Dan Foley (Irondequoit), Andy Omoregie (Gates Chili), Justin Olson (Irondequoit), and Tyrell Davis (Mt. Vernon) all claimed regional titles.  Chisolm won the 400 (50.8), Foley and Omoregie tied in the high jump with a leap of 1.95 m, Olson won the discus (37.56 m), and Davis won the shot put (13.48 m).

Other top finishers included: Keith Dziak (Buffalo/Bishop Timon), 2nd in the 400 (50.9), Omoregie 2nd in the 110 hurdles (15.1), Nolan Kearns (Marion) 2nd in the triple jump (13.45 m), and Brett Holmes (Pioneer) 2nd in the shot put (13.15 m).

On the women's side, Najia McGee (Rochester/Edison) won both the 100 (12.8) and the 200 (26.9).  She also helped the 4 x 100 relay team to a 2nd place finish (53.1).  She ran with Laura Anderson (Livonia), Caitlyn Peterson (Wayne), and Laura Dickerman (Corning West).

Angie Corby (Horseheads) won titles in the pole vault and the 400 hurdles.  In the pole vault she set a new Region III record with a vault of 2.76 m while she won the hurdles in 60.9.  She also finished 2nd in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.5.

Jacquie Holmberg (Falconer) and Philicia Harris (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) racked up points in the throwing events.  Holmberg set a new Region III record in winning the discus (41.78 m) while Harris finished 3rd with a toss of 24.95 m.  Harris won the shot put with a throw of 10.85 m while Holmberg finished 2nd (10.58).

Dickerman finished 2nd in the 400 (63.6), Nicole D'Andrea (Rush Henrietta) finished 2nd in the 800 (2:40.6), Anderson finished 2nd in the 400 hurdles (76.1) and tied for 3rd in the in the high jump (1.37 m).

The Pioneers now shift their focus towards the NJCAA Division III National Championships that will take place beginning on Thursday at Howard CC in Maryland.
