The Alfred State outdoor track and field team opened up the 2012 season with a strong showing at the Elliston Early Bird Open on the campus of Lock Haven University.

The Alfred State outdoor track and field team opened up the 2012 season with a strong showing at the Elliston Early Bird Open on the campus of Lock Haven University.

Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) won the 100 m and qualified for Nationals with a winning time of 12.95.  Shea McKee (Canisteo Greenwood) qualified for Nationals in both the long jump (4.61 m) and the high jump (1.37 m) while earning 4th place finishes.  Meghann Miskell (Livonia) also qualified for Nationals with a leap of 2.45 m in the pole vault.

On the men's side, Robert Howard (Syracuse/Nottingham) won the discus with a toss of 36.28 m while Will Houlihan (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) finished 5th and qualified for Nationals in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.50 m.  Alex Hewlett (Wellsville) qualified for Nationals in the javelin with a toss of 44.69 m (5th place).

The men's 4x400 relay team of Rawle Crawford (Mt. Vernon), Brian Tubbs (Chemung/Waverly), Marcquis Johnson-Broughton), and Hewlett finished 3rd in 3:37.04.  Local Adam Kellogg (Wellsville) qualified for regionals in the discus (34.07) and the shot put (12.22 m).

The blue & gold return to action on Friday when they host Alfred University, RIT, and Finger Lakes CC at Pioneer Stadium.
