The Alfred State College track and field team had numerous athletes qualify for the Region III Championship and the NJCAA Division III Championship at the SUNY Brockport Invitational on Saturday.

The Alfred State College track and field team had numerous athletes qualify for the Region III Championship and the NJCAA Division III Championship at the SUNY Brockport Invitational on Saturday.

John Sweeney (Barker) won the 10,000 meter run and qualified for nationals with a time of 34:27.30 while Dan Reynolds (Wayland Cohocton) returned to action and won the pole vault competition with a leap of 14'3.25".

Rod Streater (Burlington, NJ) was 2nd in the 100 m (11.17) and 2nd in the 200 m (23.18).  David Gross (Brockport) was 2nd in the shot put (47'7.25") and 4th in the discus (137').  Matt Owlett (Alfred Almond) qualifed for nationals in the 1,500 (4:17.87), Peter Francia (Greece Olympia) was 5th in the steeplechase (10:27.17), and Corey Smith (Wallkill) was 6th in the steeple (10:46.23). 

Brian Zintel (Letchworth) ran the 800 in 2:03.55 and Alex Curran (Williamson) was 5th in the pole vault (13'9.25").  The 4 x 400 relay team finished 5th (3:36.12).

On the women's side Kaleigh Ligoci (Cicero North Syracuse) qualified for nationals in the 1,500 (5:32.64).  In the 4 x 400 the team of Kassandra Durant (Ilion), Bridget McMahon (Avoca), Reaghan Bulkley (Avoca), and Shawna McNeil (Hornell) finished 4th (4:59.88).

ASC returns to action next Saturday when they travel to SUNY Geneseo.  Action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
