After a slow first five minutes, Gensee CC got their offense going in a 92-61 WNYAC victory over Alfred State on Tuesday evening. The Cougars, ranked #6 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, trailed 14-0 after five minutes but went on to hit 15 three-pointers to improve to 9-0 on the season.
Carlton Mitchell led the way for the Cougars with 28 points (5 three pointers) while Curtis Jackson finished with 25 points (7 for 10 from three) and seven assists. Laiquan Lyons chipped in 19 points and eight boards.
Dan Foley (Irondequoit) recorded another double-double finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead ASC (6-7, 0-1 WNYAC). Terell Williams (Rochester/Marshall) chipped in 11, Chris Dalton (Elmira Southside) 10, and Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) 9.
GCC shot 45.1% from the field and 45.5% (15 for 33) from three while the Pioneers shot 31.1% from the field and 16.7% from the foul line. ASC was slowed down by 26 turnovers and eight Cougar blocked shots.
The Pioneers wrap up 2008 with a home contest versus Ithaca JV on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
