The 2008 Region III Division III women's soccer All-Region team were anounced this week and three Lady Pioneers were honored. Freshman midfielder Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove), freshman forward Jessie Smith (Fredonia) and freshman defender Audrey Rath (Medina) were each named to the second team.

Winchester anchored the midfielders who worked to keep the ball at the offensive end of the field.  Offensively, she scored three goals and had seven assists, but her biggest impact came from winning balls in the middle and sending them back into the offensive zone.  Winchester was also honored this season by being named to the All-WNYAC first team.

Smith led the team offensively with 34 points on 13 goals and eight assists and was a menacing force on opposing defenses even when not scoring.  She was also tied for the team lead with three multi-goal games.  Smith also earned first team All-WNYAC honors this season.

Rath was the driving force for the Lady Pioneer defense starting all 17 games for Alfred State.  She led a defense that, as a team, had a 1.21 goals against average and had six shutouts including a stretch of four consecutive shutouts.  Rath helped out offensively with one assist and was named to the All-WNYAC first team.

The Lady Pioneers finished the season 11-5-1 overall and 10-4-1 in Region III Division III play.  Alfred State made it to the Region III Division III Pool B championship game where they were eliminated from competition by Broome CC.
