At a glance

Alfred State College has announced
new hires for spring 2008.  These include
Michelle Mapes, Paul Posener, Shaojie Jiang, and Mark
Lawniczak, Sufyan Shahin, and Casey Gross.

Alfred State College has announced
new hires for spring 2008.  These include
Michelle Mapes, Paul Posener, Shaojie Jiang, and Mark
Lawniczak, Sufyan Shahin, and Casey Gross.  

Mapes, of
Angelica, has been hired as the assistant director of procurement and payment
services.  She succeeds Glen Cline of
Scio who was promoted to director of that area.

Mapes comes to ASC with many years
of purchasing and procedural experience from the private sector which includes
employment with Alstom and Dresser-Rand.

Mapes holds
an AAS in business administration from Empire State College and an AOS in
electro-mechanical systems tech from Alfred State College.

Posener, of
West Henrietta, has been named director of residential life where he manages
the residence hall community development and educational efforts.

Prior to
joining the Alfred State College staff, Posener has served as assistant
director of residence life at SUNY Geneseo, assistant director/area coordinator
at St. John Fisher College, and residence director at SUNY Fredonia.

Posener
holds a master of science degree from SUNY College at Buffalo and a bachelor of
arts degree from SUNY Fredonia.

Jiang, of
Hornell, has been named director of international education at the college
where he recruits, admits, and advises international students.

Prior to
joining the ASC staff, Jiang served in several capacities at Concordia
University, Wisconsin, including director of international admissions, director
of Chinese MBA; and instructor in the history of China, Mandarin Chinese, and
ESL.

In China,
Jiang worked in a variety of situations at Tianjin Foreign Language Teachers
College.

Jiang holds
a PhD in education leadership from Marquette University, Milwaukee; and MBA
from Concordia University, Mequon, WI; an MS in education administration from
Concordia; and a bachelor of arts degree in English from Tianjin Normal
University, Tianjin, P. R. China.

Lawniczak,
of Lancaster, has joined the Department of Residential Life as residence
director for MacKenzie West. Lawniczak received his bachelor of arts
degree from the University at Buffalo
and is a graduate student in the student personnel administration program at
Buffalo State College.  His prior experiences include serving as a
resident assistant, as a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary, and as
a volunteer fireman in his hometown. 

Sufyan Shahin, Niskayuna, has been
hired as interim assistant director of Student Activities.  Shahin will
oversee late night event responsibilities and selected aspects of Greek Life
while the department initiates a national search for a permanent appointment.

Casey
Gross, who joined the campus community in 2000 as a residence hall coordinator,
has been appointed associate dean of Judicial Affairs. Gross has seven years'
experience as a college judicial officer, has served on the Student Conduct
Committee, and has been an active member on a number of College-wide committees
during his tenure here.
