The Alfred State College softball team got the bats going as they swept Alfred University JV, 18-10 & 10-1, to wrap up the 2008 season.  With the wins the Blue and Gold finish Head Coach Michael Caba's first season with a 10-28 record.

The Alfred State College softball team got the bats going as they swept Alfred University JV, 18-10 & 10-1, to wrap up the 2008 season.  With the wins the Blue and Gold finish Head Coach Michael Caba's first season with a 10-28 record.

In the opener, the Lady Pioneers scored 11 runs on nine hits in the 6th inning to erase a 10-7 deficit en route to the 18-10 win.  Melissa Gifford (Jamestown) was 4 for 4 while Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) was 4 for 5 with four runs scored and 2 RBI.  Kathy McCarthy (Orchard Park) was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI, Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, and Bridgett Bachert (Horseheads) was 2 for 4.

Flint picked up the complete game victory as she allowed four earned runs in six innings of work.  She struck out four and walked two.

Shelly Flint (Alfred Almond) was 2 for 2 with three runs scored and an RBI in the nightcap to pace the Pioneers 11-hit attack.  ASC broke the game open with a five-run 3rd inning.  Gifford continued her hot hitting with a 2 for 3, 3 RBI contest and Becky Simpson (Campbell Savona) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. 

Simpson also picked up the win on the mound allowing one earned run on four hits in five innings of work.  She struck out two and walked two.

On the day, A-State collected 29 hits, scored 28 runs, and scored in every inning except two.
