Shedden Wins NCCC Open Title

Alfred State College freshman Eric Shedden (Canton, PA) won the 141 lb. weight class at the Niagara CCC Open on Saturday to lead the Pioneers.  Dan Steiger (Miller Place) finished 3rd at 174 lbs and Ben Hoffman (Gouveneur) was 6th in the heavyweight competition.

Alfred State College freshman Eric Shedden (Canton, PA) won the 141 lb. weight class at the Niagara CCC Open on Saturday to lead the Pioneers.  Dan Steiger (Miller Place) finished 3rd at 174 lbs and Ben Hoffman (Gouveneur) was 6th in the heavyweight competition.

Shedden earned a 7-1 victory over Evan Dahl (Mercyhurst North East) in his first match-up of the day and then downed James Mann (Muskegon CC) 5-0 to advance to the finals.  In the finals, Shedden won by medical forfeit over Kyle Windquist (Muskegon CC).

Steiger fell in his opening match of day and was able to rebound with a 5-1 victory over Don Schildhauer (Niagara CCC) and a 3-0 win over Ben Lester (Niagara CCC) in the 3rd place match.

Hoffman lost his first match but rebounded with three victories, pin of Steve Darby (Syracuse), a pin of Carl Worthy (Grand Valley State), and a 6-4 decision over Dan Payron (Albany) to earn a spot in the consolation semifinals.  He lost a 9-7 decision to Kyle Gibas (Niagara) and then fell in the 5th place match.

Shawn Hanrahan (Unatego) finished the competition at 157 lbs. with a 4-2 mark.  He fell in his first match and then rebounded for four straight victories including pins of Jeff Chrstiansen (Muskegon CC) and Shane Ryan (Albany) before falling in the consolation quarterfinals.

On Friday evening, the blue & gold took on Muskegon (MI) CC in a dual match at NCCC.  Cody Dill (Unatego) earned a pin 2:40 into his match at 125 and Shedden downed James Mann 13-2 for the Pioneers lone points of the match.  The Jayhawks earned a 37-10 victory to even Alfred State's record to 1-1-1 on the dual match season.

ASC will once again be busy this coming weekend as they host Niagara CCC on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and then host the ASC Open on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
