The Alfred State College baseball team got back on the winning track with a doubleheader sweep of Corning CC on Thursday.  ASC won the opener 8-1 and the nightcap 6-2.

The Alfred State College baseball team got back on the winning track with a doubleheader sweep of Corning CC on Thursday.  ASC won the opener 8-1 and the nightcap 6-2.

Kyle Binder (Hornell) tossed six solid innings allowing just one earned run to pick up the win in game one.  He allowed four hits, four walks, and struck out five.  Jake Dale (Keshequa) was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Berto Vargas (Norman Thomas) finished 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.  ASC took advantage of six walks.

Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI including his first collegiate homerun to pace the Pioneers 10-hit attack in game two.  Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) also collected multiple hits finishing 2 for 2 with an RBI.  Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) allowed just four hits and one earned run in a complete game victory.  He walked five and struck out four.

With the sweep the Pioneers improve to 6-9 on the season and will make a weekend trip south to play doubleheaders at Lehigh Carbon CC (Schnecksville, PA) and Northampton (Bethlehem, PA) beginning on Saturday.
