Pioneers Sit In Second at Swim Regionals

The Alfred State College men's swimming team sits in second place after day one of the Region III/Northeast Districts at Monroe CC on Friday. The Pioneers accumulated 98 points and only trail Monroe CC's 170 points in the nine team competition.

The Alfred State College men's swimming team sits in second place after day one of the Region III/Northeast Districts at Monroe CC on Friday. The Pioneers accumulated 98 points and only trail Monroe CC's 170 points in the nine team competition.

Aaron Mychack (Lansing) finished 2nd in the 50 free (23.12) to lead the way. Kevin Minderlein (Mullica, Hill, NJ) finished 4th in the 500 free (5:41.02) while Phil Valenta (Maine Endwell) finished 4th in the 200 IM (2:16.56).

In relay action, Mychack combined with Valenta, Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) and Brett Au (N. Tonawanda) to finish 2nd in the 200 free relay. Mychack teamed with Valenta, Kozlowski, and Minderlein to finish 2nd in the 400 medley relay (3:59.28).

The lone Lady Pioneer competing, Heather Sears (Letchworth), finished 12th in the 50 free (29.33).

Action continues Saturday and Sunday at Monroe CC. The men's team has finished 2nd in the event the past two years.
