The Alfred State men's soccer team got the offense going in a 6-0 victory over Cayuga CC on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the team to 3-6-3 on the year and 3-5-2 in Region III Division III play.

The Alfred State men's soccer team got the offense going in a 6-0 victory over Cayuga CC on Saturday afternoon.  The win improves the team to 3-6-3 on the year and 3-5-2 in Region III Division III play.


Mitchell Porter (Alfred Almond) scored 10:10 into the game to give the Pioneers the early lead.  Eight minutes later Tyler Lehman (Wellsville) scored his first goal of the season to make it 2-0 after getting a pass from Shane Joyce (Irondequoit). 


18 minutes later Dane Dechau (Randolph) added to the lead with his 3rd goal of the season.  Porter and Colby Curran (Alfred Almond) were credited with assists.  Lehman gave the Pioneers a 4-0 halftime lead when he scored with five minutes left in the half.  Shion Yoshitome (Sapporo, Japan) and Dechau were given assists.


Neither team could find the back of the net until the final ten minutes of the 2nd half when Porter netted his second of the game.  Joyce and Zach Woodard (South Jefferson) had the assists.  With just over two minutes remaining, Seiyo Nakazawa (Shiga, Japan) capped the scoring his 2nd goal of the year.  Porter and Joyce picked up the assists.


Alfred held a 22 to 11 shot advantage in the game.  Nick Smith (Arkport) made six saves to record the shutout.


The six goals in the contest was the most scored in a game this season while the win snapped a six-game winless streak.


The Pioneers will look to build on the momentum of this contest on Thursday when they host Corning CC at Pioneer Stadium at 4 p.m.
