Pioneers Rally to Sweep Penn Tech

The Alfred State College baseball team rallied in both halves of a non-conference doubleheader versus Penn Tech on Sunday afternoon.  ASC won the opener 7-3 with seven unanswered runs and won the nightcap, 6-5, with two runs in the 7th.

The Alfred State College baseball team rallied in both halves of a non-conference doubleheader versus Penn Tech on Sunday afternoon.  ASC won the opener 7-3 with seven unanswered runs and won the nightcap, 6-5, with two runs in the 7th.

Jake Dale (Keshequa) drove in three runs to pace the offense in game one.  He had a key two run single in the 3rd.  Tyler Ward (Bishop Kearney) hit a two-triple in the 5th to give the Pioneers the lead for good.  Stevie Smith (Hornell) was the long Pioneer with multiple hits finished 2 for 4 with three runs scored.

Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) shook off a rough first inning and earned the victory.  He went all seven allowing six hits and two earned runs while walking two and striking out two.

In the nightcap, the blue & gold took advantage of three Wildcat errors in the 7th to erase a 5-4 deficit and tie the game.  Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) ended the game with a walk-off one-out single up the middle.

Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) led the offense with a 3 for 3, 3 RBI day while Smith was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) allowed nine hits and four earned runs in seven innings of work to pick up his first collegiate victory on the mound.  He didn't walk anyone and struck out five.

The Pioneers head into the final weekend of the fall regular season with a 6-4 (4-4 WNYAC) mark.  They are scheduled to host Jamestown CC at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Genesee CC at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
