Pioneers Give #1 Erie All They Can Handle

The Alfred State College men's basketball team pushed #1 Erie CC for over 30 minutes but the Kats used late second half runs to improve to 26-1 with a 65-50 victory.  ASC falls to 11-17 overall and 5-8 in WNYAC play.

The Pioneers led by as many as nine in the first half but trailed by two at halftime.  The game was back and forth in the second half and was tied at 44-44 with just under ten minutes left.  ECC went on a 19-4 run over the next seven minutes to take full control of the game.

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) led the blue & gold with 14 points while Yanni Gobezai (Bethesda, MD) added 14.  Brendan Letteer (Odessa Montour) finished with six points and 11 rebounds., and Rasean Parris (Brooklyn/Benjamin Bannecker) finished with four points and 11 rebounds.

Tola Lawal and Tyshawn Edwards both finished with 13 each to pace the Kats.  Kenyon Edwards added nine points while God's Gift Achiuwa added eight points and nine boards.

ASC shot 33.9% from the field and was slowed by 25 turnovers while ECC shot 41.9% from the field.

The Pioneers wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a crucial match-up with Niagara CCC.  The winner most likely will host a first round Region III Division II contest next week.  Tip-off on Saturday is at 3 p.m. in Sanborn.
