The Alfred State College wrestling team lost a hard fought WNYAC match to Jamestown CC 28-15 on Thursday evening. The Pioneers are now 0-2 in dual matches thus far in the early going of the season.
Dan Steiger (Miller Place) gave the Pioneers an early 6-0 lead with a forfeit victory. Jamestown won the next three matches at 197, Heavyweight, and 125 to take 13-6 lead.
Michael Gustafson (Warren, PA) earned a 7-4 victory at 133 lbs while Darren Whittall (Starpoint) won 6-2 at 141 to cut the lead to 13-12. The Jayhawks got a forfeit win at 149 and a 7-5 decision at 157 to take a decisive 22-12 lead.
Alex Krammell (Perry) rallied for five points in the final seconds to send the 165 lb. match into overtime where he came out with a 12-10 victory to make it 22-15 before JCC ended the evening with a pin at 174.
The Pioneers have a few days off for the Thanksgiving break and will return to action on December 5th & 6th when they travel to Niagara CCC. On Friday the 5th, the team will compete at the Niagara Duals followed by the Niagara open on Saturday.
