Erie got on the board on their first possession on a Mike Lawandus 37 yard field goal.  They made it 10-0 just minutes later capitalizing on the first of six Pioneer turnovers when Keenan Wilburn dove in for a score.

Alfred State got on the board late in the first quarter (3:22 remaining) to cut it to 10-6 when Reggie Corley (Elmira Free) connected with Quintin McKenzie (Euclid, OH) on a 31-yard scoring strike.

From that time on both teams had opportunities to put more on the scoreboard but couldn’t capitalize.  Penalties, negative yard plays, and turnovers killed scoring chances.

Alfred State outgained Erie CC 249 (175 by the air and 74 rushing) to 178 (143 passing and 35 rushing) on the day.  Erie came up with three interceptions and three fumble recoveries and held a +4 turnover margin.

Kyle Ricks (Alexandria, VA) led the defense with 10 tackles (4 solo) and an interception while Ricky DeJesus (Englewood, NJ) added nine stops.  Robert Edmonds (Washington, DC) and Sir Aaron Taylor (Westchester) were also key components to the defense finishing with eight tackles each.

Corley finished 12 for 29 for 155 yards and one score.  Rod Streater (Burlington, NJ) and Pat White (Warren, OH) each finished with 57 yards receiving while McKenzie had 45 yards on four catches.  Xavier Makell (Baltimore, MD) led the rushing attack with 46 yards on 10 carries.

Anthony Spinola was 10 for 24 for 116 yards with Lawarence Coleman cathcing four passes for 83 yards.  Trent Alls led the defense with eight tackles.

The Pioneers open up the home portion of their season on Monday, September 21 when they host Buffalo State JV at 7 p.m.
