The Pioneers and Trailblazers are very familiar with each other. Neil Wilson (Fort Worth, TX) hit a long two-point jumper in the closing seconds to lift ASC to a 85-83 victory over NCCC on Saturday to clinch the first round home playoff game. Earlier in the season, the blue & gold downed the Blazers 80-73.
Alfred State enters the contest with a 12-17 overall record and a 6-8 mark in Region III Division II games. Wilson leads the team with a 16.1 point average. He has hit 73 three-pointers on the season. Younatan Gobezai (Bethesda, MD) is averaging 12.2 points per game while Rasean Parris (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) is averaging 10 points per game and six rebounds.
Niagara will enter the postseason with a 10-9 overall record and a 6-8 Region III Division II mark.
The winner of this match-up with take on #1 Erie CC, ranked #1 in the last NJCAA Division II poll, in the tournament semifinals to be played on Saturday at the Orvis Activities Center. Tip-off will be at 1 p.m.
In the other first round match-up, #6 Jamestown Olean CC travels to #3 Genesee CC on Tuesday. The winner of that contest will take on #2 seed Monroe CC, ranked #4 in the last NJCAA Division II poll, at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Region III Division II Championship game will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division II National Championship in Danville, IL.
