Pioneers Down Cumberland, Fall to Riverland

The Alfred State College baseball team downed Cumberland (NJ) County College 9-1 but fell to Riverland (MN) CC 7-6 as they continue their week long trip in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneeers are now 3-4 on the year.

The Alfred State College baseball team downed Cumberland (NJ) County College 9-1 but fell to Riverland (MN) CC 7-6 as they continue their week long trip in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneeers are now 3-4 on the year.

Kyle Binder (Hornell) earned his second victory of the season with five innings of three-hit ball in the victory over Cumberland.  He allowed no runs while walking two and striking out one.  Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) led the offense with a 2 for 3, 2 RBI day while Jake Dale (Keshequa) was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.  Derek Speaker (Starpoint) was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases while Joe Wallace (Avoca) and Justin DiCarlo (Oakville, ONT) each connected on doubles.

Versus Riverland, ASC rallied fell behind early but rallied to get back in the game.  Trailing by one in the 7th the team had the tying and winning runs on base but were unable to drive them in.  Vargas once again led the offense with a 3 for 4 day (1 RBI and 2 Runs scored) while Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

The blue and gold are scheduled to play the Ontario Prospects at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
