Pioneers Down Cobleskill and Stevens Tech on the Mat

The Alfred State College wrestling team won both of their matches at the ASC Dual event on Saturday.  The Pioneers evened their record at 3-3 on the year with a 52-6 victory over the SUNY Cobleskill Club team and a 30-19 win over Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

The Alfred State College wrestling team won both of their matches at the ASC Dual event on Saturday.  The Pioneers evened their record at 3-3 on the year with a 52-6 victory over the SUNY Cobleskill Club team and a 30-19 win over Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

In the opener, ASC took advantage of five Cobleskill forfeits.  Anthony Brown (Bronx/Herbert Lehman) earned a 10-2 victory over Taylor Anderson at 141, Justin Hunt (Ripley) pinned Tyler DeLisle in 2:03 at 149, Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) pinned Matt Pinckney in 2:30 at 165, and Zach Race (Fulton/G Ray Bodley) earned a pin at heavyweight over Dan Peyron in 5:46.

Stevens took an early 11-0 lead after two matches but the Pioneers battled back to take the points in the next four matches.  Brown earned a pin 6:34 into his match with Al Hellemig at 141, Hunt pinned Blain Blampied at 149 in 1:55, Simons pinned Adam Chapis in 1:44 at 165, and Matt Sowers (Whitesboro) earned a forfeit victory at 174.  The Bulldogs won the next two matches to close within striking distance but Race pinned Richard Berkey in 28 seconds to cap the day's events and the victory.

The blue & gold have six weeks off before heading to Cornell University on January 21st for the NYS Championships.
