Pioneers Cruise In Home Opener

The Alfred State College lacrosse team opened up the home portion of their season with a convincing 20-2 victory over Genesee CC.  The Pioneers improve to 3-1 on the season while the Cougars even up their record at 2-2.

The Alfred State College lacrosse team opened up the home portion of their season with a convincing 20-2 victory over Genesee CC.  The Pioneers improve to 3-1 on the season while the Cougars even up their record at 2-2.

Ryan Speciale (Corning West) netted five goals and passed out an assist while Ryan Grogan (Churchville Chili) scored twice and passed out seven assists.  Josh Mateo (Waterloo) finished with two goals and three assists, Chase Bailey (Corning West) added four goals, and James Moss (Hilton) chipped in two goals and an assist. 

Tyler Baird (Corning West) scored a goal and passed out two assists, Ben Rossignolo (Churchville Chili) scored twice, and Cory Mee (Churchville Chili) picked up a goal and an assist.  Anthony Amoroso (Jamestown) scored once and Tony Micelotta (Irondequoit) was credited with an assist.

In net Marshall Merritt (Marcellus) made nine saves.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and led 11-2 at halftime.  In the second half, ASC outscored GCC 9-0.

Alfred State returns to action on Saturday when they host SUNY Delhi at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
