Pioneers Battle Tough vs. Lackawanna

The Alfred State College football team battled #19 Lackawanna College tough in the rain on Saturday but the Falcons were able to pull out a 21-7 victory.  ASC falls to 3-4 (0-4 NFC) while the Lackawanna improves to 6-1 (3-1 NFC).

The Alfred State College football team battled #19 Lackawanna College tough in the rain on Saturday but the Falcons were able to pull out a 21-7 victory.  ASC falls to 3-4 (0-4 NFC) while the Lackawanna improves to 6-1 (3-1 NFC).

Tress Baptiste got the Falcons on the board on a 25-yard fumble recovery with just 53 seconds remaining in the 1st quarter.

DeAndre Johnson (Detroit, MI) tied it up with 2:32 remaining in the half when he raced in from 21-yards out but the Falcons answered right back and scored with just 49 seconds remaining on a 5-yard run by Raj Easterling.

The rain came down heavy in the second half and Lackawanna scored the lone points on a 12-yard run by Wil Washington with 9:24 remaining in the game.

Johnson, starting at quarterback for the second straight week, had a solid day on the ground with 187 yards on 32 carries.  He couldn't get the passing offense going and finished the day 3 for 17 for 32 yards.

Alan Singletary led the Falcons with 121 yards rushing on 20 carries while Washington finished with 70 yards.  Lackawanna completed just one pass on the day in 13 attempts.

Matt Perry (Belle Vernon, PA) and Michael Gee (Englewood, NJ) led the defense with seven tackles.  Gee and LaDarius Denson (Delray Beach, FL) were credited with sacks.

The Pioneers return home next Saturday for the first time in four weeks as they host the Niagara X-Men in their final non-conference game of the year.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
