Alfred State and Monroe CC split a high scoring Region III Division II baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.  Monroe won the opener 12-7 while Alfred won the nightcap 9-6.

In the opener, MCC jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings only to see ASC scored seven runs in the 5th inning to capture their only lead.  Monroe answered right back with two runs in the 6th to re-gain the lead and scored four insurance runs in the 7th.  The game featured eight pitchers, 15 walks, 19 runs, and 20 hits.

JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 with a RBI.  Jake Dale (Keshequa) finished picked up a two-run single in the Pioneers seven run 5th inning.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first.  They added four more runs in the 2nd after MCC had cut the lead to 3-2.  MCC get chipping into the lead with a pair of runs in the 3rd and 5th inning before ASC added insurance runs in both the 5th and 6th innings.

Dale led the Pioneers 14-hit attach with a 4 for 4, 3 RBI day.  He became only the second ASC baseball player to hit three triples in a game (Frank Pavicich hit three triples on April 30, 2000 vs. Onondaga CC).

Joe Wallace (Avoca) finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) was 2 for 3 with a RBI, and Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) finished 2 for 4 with a RBI.  Frey also collected two hits.  Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) went the distance to earn the victory on the mound.  He allowed nine hits and six runs while walking three and striking out five.

ASC (17-16, 2-6 Region III Division II) is scheduled to take on Onondaga CC on Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at ASC Field.
