Pioneer Swimmers Compete at Fredonia

The Alfred State College men's swimming team competed versus NCAA Division III competition at the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational this weekend.  The Pioneers scored 288 points in the three-day event.

The Alfred State College men's swimming team competed versus NCAA Division III competition at the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational this weekend.  The Pioneers scored 288 points in the three-day event.

Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) finished 5th in the 400 IM (4:46.05), 6th in the 200 breast (2:29.46), and finished 10th in the 100 breast (1:08.59) while Alex Newell (Binghamton) finished 6th in the 500 free (5:14.58), 6th in the 200 free (1:55.77)

Aaron Mychack (Lansing) finished 6th in the 100 butterfly (56.72) and 9th in the 200 butterfly (2:21.35) and Phillip Valenta (Maine Endwell) finished 10th in the 200 back (2:21.42)

The Pioneers collected a majority of their points in relay action.

  • 200 free relay team (Newell, Kozlowski, Valenta, Mychack) finished 5th (1:34.06)

  • 800 free relay team (Kevin Minderlein - Mullica Hill, NJ, Cory Roberts, Austin Ingerick - Canandaigua, and Newell) finished 5th (8:38.89)

  • 400 free relay (Newell, Valenta, Kozlowski, and Mychack) finished 5th (3:29.23)

  • 400 medley relay team (Valenta, Nathan Forrest - Royalton Hartland, Kozlowski, and Mychack) finished 6th (4:00.36)

  • 200 medley relay team (Kozlowski, Forrest, Mychack, and Valenta) finished 6th (1:49.67)

 Baldwin Wallace College (890.5 points) won the men's title while SUNY Fredonia (1,130.5 points) won the women's title.

The Pioneers return to action for the last time in 2008 on Wednesday when they travel to Monroe CC to take on the Tribunes and Jamestown CC.  Action is set for a 6 p.m. start.
