Pioneer Men Win Track Regionals

The Alfred State College men's indoor track & field team won the Region III Championship for the third straight year.  The Pioneers were 38 points better than runner-up Erie CC.  The women's team finished 3rd with 72 points.

The Alfred State College men's indoor track & field team won the Region III Championship for the third straight year.  The Pioneers were 38 points better than runner-up Erie CC.  The women's team finished 3rd with 72 points.

Brian Zintel (Letchworth) was the lone event winner in the third day of the championships.  He won the 800 m in 2:06.24.  Hector Cuero (Middletown) was 2nd in the 800, Pete Francia (Greece Olympia) was 3rd in the mile (4:52.25), and Logan Drummer (Pioneer) was 3rd in the 1,000.

On the women's side, Reaghan Bulkley (Avoca) was 3rd in the 60 m dash (8.55) and Emily Johns (Bath) was 3rd in the 60 m hurdles (11.77).

Saturday's events were contested at Cornell University and were the third day of competition.  The previous events were held at Colgate University (1/31) and Cornell (2/13-14).

The men finished the competition with 200 points followed by Erie CC's 162.  SUNY Delhi was 3rd (128) and Mohawk Valley CC was 4th (107).  On the women's side, Erie CC won the region title with 221 points followed by Mohawk Valley (188).  Alfred State was 3rd with 72 and SUNY Delhi finished with 45.

A few Pioneers will travel to the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 6-7 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
