Pioneer Men Finsh 6th, Women 8th at Districts

The Alfred State College men's swim team finished 6th overall and 4th in Region III at the Northeast Districts over the weekend while the women finished 8th overall and 5th in Region III.  The men scored 170.5 points while the women accumulated 73.5.

The Alfred State College men's swim team finished 6th overall and 4th in Region III at the Northeast Districts over the weekend while the women finished 8th overall and 5th in Region III.  The men scored 170.5 points while the women accumulated 73.5.

Cory Roberts (Marcus Whitman) was 2nd in the 200 fly (2:21.56), 6th in the 100 fly (1:01.24) and 7th in the 1650 free (5:39.43).  Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah) finished 5th in the 100 fly (1:00.53), 9th in the 100 free (53.55), and was tied for 9th in the 50 free (24.12).  Josiah Halbohm (Bemus Point) was 6th in the 200 IM (2:35.27), 7th in the 200 back (2:29.96), and 8th in the 100 back (1:10.72).  Tim Guarino (Cornwall) was 6th in the 400 IM (5:44.10), 10th in the 200 breast (2:51.73), and 11th in the 100 breast (1:17.65).  Wade Harrington (Campbell-Savona) was 7th in the 1650 free (21:53.98) and 9th in the 100 back (1:11.04)

Halbohm, Roberts, Wright, and Guarino finished 4th in the 200 free relay (1:41.45) and 5th in the 400 medley relay (4:22.03).  Wright, Harrington, Halbohm, and Roberts earned 5th place in the 400 free relay (3:46.71) and the 800 free relay (8:23.03).

Ashley Andrus (Cuba Rushford) led the women with a 2nd place finish in the 100 fly (1:10.72), a 4th place finish in the 200 IM (2:34.87), and tied for 4th in the 100 free (1:01.29).  Sabrina Dunning (Cuba Rushford) was 6th in the 1650 free (23:20.31), 9th in the 100 back (1:18.09) and 11th in the 1650 free (6:46.47) while Emily Bergman (Horseheads) was 8th in the 100 fly (1:32.66). 

The 200 free relay team of Andrus, Dunning Bergman, and Val Luppino (Buffalo/Performing Arts) finished 8th in 2:06.18, 8th in the 400 free relay (4:52.15), and 9th in the 200 medley relay (2:25.99).

The focus now turns to the NJCAA National Championships to be held March 3-6 at Indian River CC in Fort Pierce, FL.
