Pioneer Men Finish 5th at Swim Districts, Women 9th

The Alfred State College men's swimming team finished the 2011 Northeast District/Region III Championships in 5th place out of eight teams while the two Lady Pioneers that competed earned 9th place.

The Alfred State College men's swimming team finished the 2011 Northeast District/Region III Championships in 5th place out of eight teams while the two Lady Pioneers that competed earned 9th place.

The Pioneer relay teams finished in 4th in four of the five relay competition.  The 200 free team finished in 1:41.29, the 400 medley team in 4:13.35, the 400 free team in 3:40.83, and the 800 free team in 8:30.20.

Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah) led the way in individual events.  He was 3rd in the 100 fly (58.55), 3rd in the 200 fly (2:16.71), and 6th in the 200 IM (2:20.35).

Tim Guarino (Cornwall) was 4th in the 200 breast (2:39.38), 5th in the 100 breast (1:11.69), and 9th in the 200 IM (2:31.74)

Jake Giglio (Hornell) was 5th in the 100 free (53.62), 6th in the 50 free (23.40), and 6th in the 200 free (2:06.41).

Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama was 8th in the 100 back (1:09.41), Wade Harrington (Campbell Savona) was 10th in the 1650 free (21:25.15), and Atay Chokmorov (Bishkek, Kyrgyztan) was 11th in the 200 breast (3:06.19).

Erin Baum (Dryden) finished 5th in the 100 fly (1:18.21) and 6th in the 200 fly (3:02.18) to lead the women's duo.  Rebecca Haskins (Latham/Shaker) was 9th in the 100 free.

The men's team 200 points in the three-day competition and trailed 4th place Genesee CC by just four points.  The women earned 23 points for the weekend.

The Pioneers now shift their focus to the NJCAA National Championships which will be held at the Flickenger Center in Buffalo, NY March 2-5.
