Alfred State College freshman wrestler Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) has advanced to the NJCAA Wrestling National Championships semifinals in the 149 lb. weight class.  Peet and the Pioneers sit in 28th place after day one of competition in Spokane, WA.

Peet was 3-0 on the day to advance to the national semi's.  Peet defeated Mariano Portillo (Ridgewater (MN) College) 9-2 in the first round and followed that up with a 7-2 victory over Nick Bendon (Southwestern Oregon CC).  In the quarterfinals he earned a 12-5 decision over Kyle Windquist (Muskegon (MI) CC). 

In the semifinals he will take on Victor DeJesus (Iowa Lakes CC).  DeJesus is ranked the #1 wrestler in the latest NJCAA 149 lb. weight class poll.

Taylor Nelson (Somers) was the only other Pioneer to register a victory on the first day.  He defeated Brett Frederickson (Clackamas (OR) CC) 6-1 in the first round but fell 11-5 to Simas Norkus (Western Wyoming) in the second round.  He was eliminated in the consolation bracket in the next round by Jim Doyle (Iowa Lakes).

Kyle Conrad (Bath), Cody Dill (Unatego), and James Barlow (Wayland Cohocton) all competed at Nationals and were unable to pick up victories.  Conrad lost a tough 5-2 decision in his opener and never could recover while Dill fell 3-2 in his opener.

Peet is scheduled to wrestle at 1:30 p.m. (EST) in the 149 lb. semifinals.
