Alfred State wrestlers Tyler Peet (Gilbertsville/Unadilla Valley) and Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) are in Rochester, MN for the 2012 NJCAA National Championships. Peet and Simons will hit the mat for first round action on Friday morning.
Peet enters the national championship with a 13-3 record. During the year, he was the 149 lb. champion at the Ithaca Open and finished 2nd at both the JCC Open and the Northeast Districts. He is making his second trip to Nationals and looks to improve on his 6th place finish in 2011.
Peet will match-up with Jose Mariscal from Triton (IL) CC in his first round. The winner will take on Mac Malderelli from Nassau CC. Malderelli was ranked #2 in the final coaches association rankings.
Simons is 9-13 on the year heading into the National Championships. He earned a spot in Minnesota with a 2nd place finish at the Northeast Districts. Simons is matched up with Bryce Lewis from Colby CC in the first round of the 165 lb. competition. The winner faces Colin Hewitt from Iowa Central who was ranked #2 in the latest coaches association rankings.
First round action begins from Rochester CTC's fieldhouse at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and continues on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
