Murphy and Miller Named Athletes of the Week

Indoor track & field athletes Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) and David Miller (Elmira Southside) have been named the Alfred State Athletes of the Week. Murphy and Miller have had solid showings in the Pioneers first two meets of the season.

Indoor track & field athletes Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) and David Miller (Elmira Southside) have been named the Alfred State Athletes of the Week.  Murphy and Miller have had solid showings in the Pioneers first two meets of the season.

Murphy qualified for the NJCAA National Championships in the 800 m.  She finished 7th overall at the SPIRE North Coast Open in the event with a time of 2:23.51 to qualify for the Nationals.  Murphy was also part of the 4x400 relay team that finished 7th in 4:22.39.  In the opening week of competition at RIT, Murphy was 7th in the 800 m (2:31.00).

Miller qualified for the National Championships at the RIT Invitational on Jan. 14th with a leap of 4.40 m.  His leap earned him 4th place in the competition.  Last weekend, Miller continued his stellar start to the season by winning the pole vault competition at the SPIRE North Coast Open with a vault of 4.55 m.

The 2012 NJCAA Indoor track & field National Championships will be held in Charleston, IL on March 2 & 3.
