The Alfred State College men's swimming team remained undefeated in invitationals by winning the SUNY Delhi Invite. The Pioneers have now won all three invitationals they have swam in this season. The women's team finished 4th out of eight teams.
Alex Newell (Binghamton) and Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) each won three individual events and were parts of the winning 200 free relay team. Newell won the 1650 free (19:05.60), the 100 free (53.39), and the 500 free (5:32.44). Kozlowski won the 200 IM (2:11.29), the 100 butterfly (57.90), and the 100 breast (1:06.95). They also teamed with Brett Au (N. Tonawanda) and Phillip Valenta (Maine Endwell) to win the 200 free relay in 1:37.64.
Tim Goodrich (Iroquois) won the 200 free (2:04.27) and finished 2nd in the 100 backstroke (1:05.24). Goodrich also teamed with Sean Valvano (Newark), Au, and Martin Rose (Mynderse) to finish 2nd in the 200 medley relay (1:58.93).
Valenta also earned a 2nd place finish in the 100 free (57.14) while Valvano was 2nd in the 100 breast (1:10.69).
On the women's side Kaitlyn Corbett (Clarence) was a three-event winner. She won the 50 free (27.49), the 100 free (1:00.44), and the 100 back (1:10.19). Becca Mastasio (Livonia) won the 200 free (2:15.80) and the 500 free (6:14.28).
The men scored 330 points, 39 better than 2nd place SUNY Delhi. The women score 93 points with their two swimmers while Genesee CC won the invite with 233 points.
The Pioneers dive back into action on Wednesday when they travel to Genesee CC for a tri-meet with GCC and Jamestown CC. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m.
