Men's Swim Team Wins Herkimer Title

The Alfred State College men's swimming team dove into the 2012 portion of their season with a 1st place finish at the Herkimer CCC January Sprint Invitational.  The Pioneers scored 216 points to win the event.

The Alfred State College men's swimming team dove into the 2012 portion of their season with a 1st place finish at the Herkimer CCC January Sprint Invitational.  The Pioneers scored 216 points to win the event.

Jake Giglio (Hornell) won two individual events to lead the way for the Pioneers.  He won the 50 free (23.86) and the 100 fly (1:00.94)Mark Pendleton (Beacon) won the 1650 free (20:37.80) and was 2nd in the 100 breast (1:12.88) while Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama) won the 100 back (1:06.86) and was 3rd in the 200 IM (2:27.06).

The 200 medley relay team of Stellrecht, Pendleton, Giglio, and Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton) won in 1:54.03 while the same quartet finished 2nd in the 200 free relay (1:38.88).

Maggie McBurney (Jamesville Dewitt) was the lone Lady Pioneers in competition and registered 6th place finishes in bot the 100 back (1:30.55) and the 200 IM (3:14.16).

The Pioneers return to action next Saturday at the Erie CC Invitational.  The first event is set to start at 1 p.m. at the Flickenger Center in downtown Buffalo.
