Men still in 2nd, Women in 4th after day two of Swim Districts

The Alfred State College swimming team is continuing its strong showing at the Northeast Districts this weekend.  The men sit in 2nd place heading into the final day of competition while the women are in 4th.

The Alfred State College swimming team is continuing its strong showing at the Northeast Districts this weekend.  The men sit in 2nd place heading into the final day of competition while the women are in 4th.

Kaitlyn Corbett (Clarence) and Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) highlighted day two for the Pioneers.  Corbett won the 200 freestyle (2:08.61) and then broke the school record in teh 100 back by finishing 2nd in 1:06.28.  Kozlowski won the 400 IM in 4:38.30.

The men's 200 medley relay team of Phil Valenta (Maine Endwell), Sean Valvano (Newark), Paul Congdon (Bath), and Brett Au (N. Tonawanda) finished 2nd in 1:49.64.  Valenta also picked up a 2nd place finish in the 400 IM (4:54.52) while Congdon was 2nd in the 100 fly (58.75).

The men's 800 free relay team of Congdon, Dan Langworthy (Peekskill), Kozlowski, and Alex Newell (Binghamton) were nudged out by just four seconds but took home 2nd place honors with a swim of 7:38.33.

Jessica Chan (New Hyde Park) earned a 3rd place finish in the 100 fly (1:12.03) and teamed with Corbett, Becca Mastasio (Livonia), and Rahcele Zanghi (Canandaigua) to earn 3rd in the 200 medley relay (2:19.35).

Monroe CC leads the men's competition with 288 followed by the Pioneers 264 points.  The women have accumulated 149 points while Monroe has a healthy lead with 406 points.

The final day of competition begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Monroe CC.
