Brianne McMahon-2Alfred State College volleyball player Brianne McMahon (Buffalo/Sweet Home) has been named the NJCAA Division III Hitter of the Week while the Lady Pioneers remain ranked #5 in the last poll of the regular season.

McMahon, the third Lady Pioneers to be honored by the NJCAA this season, averaged 4.9 kills, 5.3 digs, and 1.8 service aces over the Blue and Gold's eight bames last week.  The Lady Pioneers downed SUNY Delhi, Herkimer CCC, Tompkins Cortland CC, and Jefferson CC 2-0 last Saturday at the Corning CC Invitational.

She collected two double-doubles on the week with 11 kills and 10 digs against HCCC and TCCC.

The Lady Pioneers remain the #5 spot for the third straight week and head into this weekend's Region III Division III Tournament with a 30-4 overall record and a 29-2 record in Region III Division III play.  ASC is the #1 seed and host of the two-day tournament beginning on Saturday.  In pool play, A-State takes on #9 SUNY Delhi at 11:30 a.m., #5 SUNY Cobleskill at 2:30 p.m., and #4 Mohawk Valley CC at 5:30 p.m.

The top two team teams in each pool will advance to the championship rounds.  The semifinals are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday with the finals taking place at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  The winner of the Regional tournament earns an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division III Tournament in Rochester, MN.
