McLaughlin's 30 leads Lady Pioneers to victory

Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) was 10 for 23 from the field and 10 for 14 from the foul line as Alfred State defeated Mercyhurst North East 74-63 in their Western New York Conference opener.

McLaughlin finished with a game high 30 points and added seven assists and five rebounds.  Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) recorded another double-double with 18 points on 7 for 11 shooting and 10 boards.

Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) added seven points while Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) finished wiht six points.  ASC shot 42.9% from the field and 70.8% from the foul line.

Perrial Pearson led North East with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Angela Smith finished with 14.  The Lady Saints shot 47.1% from the field and 60% from the foul line but comitted 28 turnovers.

The Lady Pioneers improve to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in WNYAC while Mercyhurst falls to 8-11 and 2-3 in WNYAC play.

A-State returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest versus Jamestown CC.
