Marshall's Three Lifts Pioneers to Win

Dusty Marshall (Newfield) hit a three-pointer with 36 seconds remaining to give Alfred State a 68-67 lead en route to a 70-69 victory over Broome CC on Tuesday evening.  The win improves the Pioneers to 3-0 on the year while the Hornets fall to 1-2.

Dusty Marshall (Newfield) hit a three-pointer with 36 seconds remaining to give Alfred State a 68-67 lead en route to a 70-69 victory over Broome CC on Tuesday evening.  The win improves the Pioneers to 3-0 on the year while the Hornets fall to 1-2.

Marshall came around a screen and connected on his 4th three-pointer of the game to give ASC the lead.  After a defensive stand, Fran Lantigua (Jamestown) connected on two foul shots to give the Pioneers a three-point lead with 10 seconds remaining.  The Hornets misfired on a three but scored a two point put back as time expired.

Marshall led A-State with 17 points, five steals, and five boards.  Jimmie Dillard (Gates Chili) chipped in 14 and Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.  Cerrone Jackson (Forrest Hills) finished with nine points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

Nicholas Kjaerholt led Broome with 22 points while Rob Krowiak and Jim Torto each finished with 12.  Zach Huston had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  BCC hit 12 three-pointers in the contest.

ASC had a 48 to 42 advantage on the boards.  The Blue and Gold shot 38.7% from the field, 40% from three, and just 59.3% from the foul line.  The Pioneers did hit their last eight foul shots.  BCC shot 34.8% from the field, 41.4% from three, and 73.3% from the foul line.

The Blue and Gold open up the home portion of their season on Thursday when they host Corning CC.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
