"Clarion was the best choice to further my wrestling career. The coaching staff wants me to come in and be a leader right away. I want to work hard and get to the NCAA National Championships. It's a relief to have made this decision and to know that I have my college paid for."
Head Coach George Porter is excited with Luckett's decision. "Brick has been a special part of my life and the program at Alfred State. He will get to fulfill his dream to wrestle at the Division I level. The staff at Clarion is looking forward to having him there and they will be able to tap the resources to make Brick even more successful. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jamie wrestling for a national championship one day"
Clarion's wrestling program has a rich history of success. In 41 years of competition, the Golden Eagles have had eight NCAA Division I National Champions. The most notable wrestling alum is Olympic Champion Kurt Angle who was a two-time NCAA heavyweight champion.
Luckett will wrestle for Teague Moore who recently completed his first year at the helm of the program. Moore was a NCAA champion at Oklahoma State and spent time as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, and Harvard. Clarion finished the 2006-07 season with a 7-13 record in dual matches and a 7th place finish at the Eastern Wrestling League Championships.
During the 2006-07 campaign, Luckett earned NJCAA 2nd team All-American honors, 1st team All-Region honors, and 1st team All-WNYAC honors following a 26-2 season. Luckett finished 2nd in the 197 lb. bracket at Nationals after defending his Northeast District title.
His 2nd place finish at Nationals was the top finish by an ASC wrestler since 1984 when both Ange DeAngelis (134 lbs.) and Daryl Rogers (158 lbs.) each finished 2nd.
In 2005-06 he earned 3rd team All-American honors, 1st team All-Region honors, and 1st team All-WNYAC honors. He finished the year 21-2.
Luckett is the first Pioneer wrestler since 1985 to earn All-American honors in back-to-back season. Ron Dabolt was a 4th team All-American in 1984 and a 5th team All-American in 1985.
Not only did Luckett excel on the wrestling mat at Alfred State he was a two-year member of the Pioneer football team. During his football career he rushed for 1,169 yards and 10 scores. He also caught 13 passes for 91 yards and two scores. Following his sophomore season he was a 2nd team All-NFC selection.
Porter, whose son Kenny wrestled at Clarion, knows Luckett's signing will have an impact on the Pioneer program. "Jamie's signing with Clarion shows that we bring in good athletes and have connections so that our athletes can move on to higher levels."
"Coming to Alfred State was such a great step for me. I wasn't going to go to college but deciding to come here has helped me make the right choices in my life and my experiences here have changed my life."
