Alfred State College freshman Wenley Louis (Irondequoit) has been named the Region III male athlete of the week. Louis had a solid performance at the Colgate Class of '32 Invitational over the weekend.
Louis won the long jump with a leap of 6.92 m and then finished 2nd in the triple jump with a mark of 13.72. Louis was competing versus competition from 17 different colleges. The event was also day one of the Region III Indoor Championships so Louis claimed two Region titles with his performances.
His performance at Colgate follows two first performances at the Mary Phillips Open at Fredonia. At Fredonia he leaped 7.1 m in the long jump to qualify for the NJCAA Indoor National Championships and 13.8 m in the triple jump.
Louis, who will return to action this Saturday at Susquehanna University, is the 7th Pioneer athlete to be honored by Region III with the weekly award.
