The Alfred State College wrestling team opened up their 2007-08 season at the University of Buffalo Open.  The Pioneers wrestled athletes from some of the top programs in the Northeast and sophomore Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) placed in the 133 lb. competition.

The Alfred State College wrestling team opened up their 2007-08 season at the University of Buffalo Open.  The Pioneers wrestled athletes from some of the top programs in the Northeast and sophomore Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) placed in the 133 lb. competition.

Longenecker fell 6-2 to Tyler Milonas (Rutgers) in his opening match but rebounded with wins over Brian Bollette (Rutgers) 8-0, and Ethan Swope (Gannon) 7-3 to advance in the consolation bracket.  He fell 6-1 to Aaron Ely (Edinboro) in his next match but earned 5th place with a decision over Corey Green (Buffalo).

Hornell High School grads Aaron Parks and Scott Ray each earned wins in the competition.  Parks downed Kyle Friedman (Bloomsburg) in his first match 15-7 but fell in his next two matches at 149 lbs.  Ray defeated Tim Ironman (Unattached) 4-3 in his first match at 157 lbs. but was unable to advance past the next two rounds.

Anthony Heid (Lyons) won his opening match 14-6 over Dan Snyder (Edinboro) before falling in his next two matches at 165 and Jordan Hughson (Holley) won 7-3 over Morgan Wanter (American International) in his first match at 184 before falling twice.  Heavyweight Andy Wright (Hilton) lost his first match but rebounded by pinning Nicholas Gonzalez (Jamestown CC) in 2:11.  Wright's day ended when he fell in the next round.

The Pioneers open up Western New York Athletic Conference action on Wednesday when they travel to Mercyhurst North East for a 7 p.m. dual match.
