The Alfred State College volleyball team went 3-0 in the first day of Onondaga CC Tournament on Friday.  The Lady Pioneers, ranked #9 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, is now 14-1 on the season.

The Alfred State College volleyball team went 3-0 in the first day of Onondaga CC Tournament on Friday.  The Lady Pioneers, ranked #9 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, is now 14-1 on the season.

In their first action of the day, ASC downed Mohawk Valley CC 25-6 and 25-18.  Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) led the way with seven kills, four digs, and one ace while Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) chipped in seven kills, six digs, and three blocks.  Breanna Horton (Owego Free) finished with 17 assists.

The Blue and Gold downed Erie CC 25-11 and  25-14 in their middle match of the day.  Jerome finished with nine kills and three digs while Toydome and Miki Inoue (Kumamoto, Japan) each finished with five kills.  Horton passed out 19 assists.

In the final match of the night, the Lady Pioneers downed Fulton Montgomery CC 25-7 and 25-15.  Jerome finished with eight kills, four digs, and three aces while Emily Linn (Portville) finished with six kills.  Jessica Suojanen (Saranac Lake) came off the bench and chipped in four digs and was solid in serve reception.

The Lady Pioneers finish up pool play tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with a match versus host Onondaga CC.  The team has already clinched a spot in the tournament quarterfinals which begins at 2 p.m.
