The Alfred State College volleyball team advanced to the Onondaga CC Tournament final but settled for a 2nd place finish after falling to Jamestown CC in the final.  ASC finishes the tournament with a 6-1 record in the two-day tournament and is now 17-2 on the season.

The Alfred State College volleyball team advanced to the Onondaga CC Tournament final but settled for a 2nd place finish after falling to Jamestown CC in the final.  ASC finishes the tournament with a 6-1 record in the two-day tournament and is now 17-2 on the season.

This morning the Lady Pioneers downed Onondaga CC 25-20 and 25-9 to finish up pool play with a perfect 4-0 record.  ASC downed SUNY Delhi (25-10, 25-14) in the quarterfinals and Monroe CC (25-19, 25-18) in the semifinals to advance to the finals.

In the finals the Lady Pioneers battled the Jayhawks, ranked #8 in the latest NJCAA poll, tough and held leads in both games but couldn't pull out victories (21-25, 21-25).  Both ASC's losses on the year have been at the hands of JCC in tournament finals.

Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) and Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) were each named to the All-Tournament team.  Toyodome finished with 40 kills and 27 digs on Saturday while Jerome had 25 kills, 22 digs, and four aces.

Miki Inoue (Kumamoto, Japan) finished with 38 digs and seven kills, Emily Linn (Portville) chipped in 24 kills, 19 digs, six blocks, and four aces, and Breanna Horton (Owego Free) passed out 83 assists and registered 25 digs.  Christina Nolan (Niagara Wheatfield) added 20 digs on the day for ASC.

The Lady Pioneers, currently ranked #9 in the latest NJCAA poll, will meet up again with Jamestown CC in a Western New York Athletic Conference battle on Tuesday at the Orvis Activities Center.  Opening serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
