The Alfred State College volleyball team went 5-2 and finished 2nd at the annual Cara Bryant Memorial Invitational at Onondaga CC.  The Pioneers are now 9-7 on the season (8-6 Region III Division III).

The Alfred State College volleyball team went 5-2 and finished 2nd at the annual Cara Bryant Memorial Invitational at Onondaga CC.  The Pioneers are now 9-7 on the season (8-6 Region III Division III).

ASC fell to Fulton Montgomery CC 2-0 in their opening round of pool play (20-25, 21-25) before rebounding to defeat Mohawk Valley CC 2-0 (25-10, 25-21), SUNY Delhi 2-0 (25-19, 25-15), and Onondaga CC 2-1 (25-23, 24-26, 15-11) to advance to the quarterfinals.  The Lady Pioneers downed OCC in a rematch 2-0 (25-19, 25-16) and then defeated Monroe CC 2-0 (25-23, 25-19) in the semifinals.  In the finals, ASC and Jamestown CC battled to three games but the Jayhawks came through with the victory (25-22, 17-25, 13-15).

Emily Linn (Portville) and Bobbi Hopkins (Southwestern) were named to the All-Tournament team.  Linn recorded 61 kills, 40 digs, 12 blocks, and eight service aces on the weekend while Hopkins had 37 kills, 33 digs, blocks, and four aces.

Brittany Haines (Salamanca) passed out 141 assists on the weekend and was credited with 34 digs, and five aces.

The Lady Pioneers will travel to Jamestown CC on Tuesday for a re-match with the Jayhawks.  Action at the JCC Physical Education Building begins at 6 p.m.
